We are excited to consider a remote engineer for this opportunity. Remote team members will be expected to work out of their home office.

    Your Opportunity

New Relic is looking for a highly experienced software engineer to help guide the future of our high throughput, low latency streaming systems that support one of our fastest growing telemetry signals, metrics! In this role, you will serve as a core contributor on product-wide efforts to enable new metric sources and improve platform scalability, reliability, and efficiency.

    What You'll Do

The Telemetry Data Platform group at New Relic provides the foundation for our products: data ingestion, transformation, storage, and retrieval. You'll draw from your experience to design and deliver new capabilities that make our data platform more open and easier to use.

As a senior contributor on the Metrics team, you'll be expected to build and maintain data ingestion and transformation services within critical stream processing systems. These services are implemented in Java and leverage Apache Kafka. You will participate in the OpenTelemetry community and drive internal adoption at New Relic.

We have a globally distributed development organization. Emphasis on written, asynchronous communication is key. You'll need to harness your excellent communication skills to lead creative and collaborative efforts.

    Your Qualifications

    Must have:

    • 10+ years of experience with Java or another similar language
    • Experience designing, delivering, and operating concurrent data processing applications at scale
    • Collaborative and able to optimally navigate dependencies between multi-functional teams within the organization to deliver results
    • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills

    Nice-to-have:

    • Previous contributions to OpenTelemetry projects.
    • Experience with observability platforms or other data platforms
    • Knowledge of distributed systems and streaming systems fundamentals
    • Experience in one or more of the following: Amazon Web Services, Kubernetes, Apache Kafka, OpenTelemetry, OpenMetrics, Prometheus

We're looking for bold and passionate people to be a part of our mission to create more perfect software. We'd love to have you apply, even if you don't feel you meet every single requirement. What's most important to us is finding authentic and accountable people who feel connected to our mission and values, not just candidates who check off all the boxes.
